Metal Cans

Aluminum, steel, & tin cans, such as food and beverage cans for soda, soup, beer, beans, fruit and vegetables. Please rinse out all metal containing food or beverages. removing the label is optional.

Glass Containers

glass containers including food jars and beverage bottles. Includes any clear, green or brown glass food containers such as beer/alcohol bottles and sauce jars. Please rinse out all glass containing food or beverages and remove lids.


Mixed Paper

mixed paper including junk mail, catalogs, telephone books, magazines, news paper, letters, construction paper, office paper and envelopes.

Plastics

Includes plastic bottles, jugs, and tubs. bottles include soda, water, and shampoo. Jugs include milk and laundry detergent. Tubs include yogurt and sour cream tubs. make sure all containers are rinsed, clean, and dry.

Corrugated Cardboard

Cardboard, including boxes used for moving and shipping or any other box made of corrugated cardboard.

Paper Board

Paper board boxes such as cereal boxes, tissue boxes, refrigerated food boxes, boxes from toiletries, and soda/beer cases.

We are doing our part and we ask that you, the customer, take a few minutes to do yours. If in doubt, just throw it out!


-Remove all residues from cans, bottles and jars, (NO NEED to remove labels.) 

Flatten all cardboard and boxes or they will not be taken. 

-Items can be placed in provided containers, paper bags, or cardboard boxes. 

-Do not put items into plastic trash bags or the blue recycle bags.  

 

During the winter months, please make sure your container is not hiding behind a snow bank, so the driver can see it. As the snow banks get higher it is very easy to drive by a pile of recycling. 

Where Can I Take Unnacepted Items?

  • Plastic Bags –  most grocery stores provide drop off containers in the entrance.
  • Clothing –  Clothing receptacles are located near and around the area, usually near the grocery stores OR Good Will, Salvation Army, and Common Goods.
  • Eyeglasses – Eyeglasses can be donated to the Lion’s Club or check with your eye Doctor
  • Incandescent light bulbs –  (for a small fee) can be taken to your local hardware stores to be disposed of properly.
  • Paints and supplies – check with your local hardware store or the DKMM.
  • Scrap Metal – Worth money at metal recycling facilities.
  • Tires – Yearly collection normally in the spring contact the DKMM for more information.
  • Yard Waste – Knox County collection facility located at 7425 Thayer Rd. Mount Vernon. drop off free of charges.
